Welcome to the Design Technology page, where you will find all the up-to-date information about how we deliver the subject throughout the school.
Design & Technology is a vital part of the curriculum for our children at Kirkdale. It encourages children to use their creativity and imagination to solve real-life problems. Our core curriculum is split into 6 core skills: Food, Materials, Textiles, Electricals, Construction and Mechanics.
Through Design & Technology, we intend to build upon our children's experiences, learning about the made world and creating a functional product. We aim to provide opportunities for all our children, developing their teamwork, resilience and perseverance while building upon previous skills. Children are provided with real-life problems to solve, to follow a cycle of Investigate, Design, Make & Evaluate to finish with a unique, hand-crafted product fit for purpose.
Every child will be given opportunities throughout their school life to work with various materials and basic tools to interact with and implement to change their properties. Children are given the freedom to create a product centred around their own imagination, pushing them to think outside the box.
